Herbert Girtley Jr. is a fiction writer from Columbia, Mississippi. His stories have appeared in Oxford American, Callaloo, and Salvation South. He is a recipient of a Periplus Fellowship and the 2025 University of Kentucky Fiction Award. He currently lives in Lexington, Kentucky, where he teaches middle school English. He is at work on a short story collection and a novel.
